Midtown's Metamorphosis
Charlotte's midtown looks to be becoming one of the most vibrant locales in the city! In the next couple years, some of Little Sugar Creek Greenway will be renewed, a new  children's hospital will open it's doors, and work on a Ronald McDonald House should be under way. Also in the near future is Pappas Properties and Collett & Associates' development of the Metropolitan, a $225 million mixed-use project featuring restraints, retail stores, office space and a variety of chic residential units.
This area will be urban, yet tranquil. The Little Sugar Creek Parkway will provide a mix of urban sophistication and a natural outdoor oasis for the area. Also nearby will be the new Carolinas Medical Center's, a 12-story, 234 bed Levine Children's Hospital and ICU Patient Tower. And while midtown already offers quick access to the center city, the new light rail project will only bolster this. Developers have been busy building condos and other facilities along the 9.6 mile pair of tracks, which will carry electric powered trains from uptown to near Pineville and to the University City area.
Already planned to be in the middle of this is two trendy, high rise condo developments-Met Lofts and MetClub. The residents of these condos will be able to take their elevator down to great resteraunts, shopping, or a stroll along the greenway. Michael Smith, president of Charlotte Center City Partners said, "When we think in terms of the center city, bringing office space, retail and residential units to the city is great stuff! It's very congruent with the things that we're trying to accomplish as a city."
