RSS stands for
"real simply syndication." It is a means
for Websites like this one to syndicate articles and
other content through "RSS feeds" to real
estate industry newsletters and other Realtor's Websites
and blogs. Most commercial Websites and blogs now publish an RSS feed. Each item in
the feed usually contains a headline; article summary
and link back to the Website where the entire online
article can be read. RSS feed are a great tool for
generating high-quality traffic to your real estate
Website!
How
do I view an RSS feed?
RSS feeds are
viewed in a news aggregator or reader, which
constantly updates and shows unread feeds. Their
functionality is very
similar
to email applications like Microsoft outlook.
You simply enter the URL (i.e., Website address) of any
RSS feed of interest . Topics with a common theme can be
group into folders for easy management.
How
do RSS
Benefit me?
RSS is a great time saver!
Instead of searching all over the
Internet for information of interest,
you can "subscribe" to free RSS feeds
that automatically appear in your free
reader as new information becomes
available. And the reader
structure allows you to quickly scan
headlines and a brief summary, so you
can determine which items you want to
dwell into by simply clicking on them.
Most readers even notify you when a
new article or news piece appears in
your reader.
Better yet, there is no spam with RSS. If you don't like the
quality of information you get from a
RSS feed, simple delete the feed from
your reader!
How
can I get started using an RSS feed?
The
first thing you have to do is to
install
an
RSS Reader on your PC.
There are some
excellent FREE ones out there:
-
Feedreader - This is what I use.
It is simple to install, learn and
manage. I recommend it.
-
RssReader
-
RocketInfo
-
Yahoo (Requires that you have a
Yahoo account; displays in browser)
Where do
I find feeds to enter into my RSS
reader?
The
most common way to find a RSS feed with
information of interest to you is to
look for the RSS icon on Websites that
you often visit. These come in
many varieties, but are usually an
orange button that says "XML" or "RSS."
Here's mine:

Clicking on this button will take you to
a page that looks like raw code, because
feeds are coded in the XML language.
No sweat -
just
copy the URL (adress in the top of the browser window) into your reader (under
"add
a new feed"). It's that
simple!
The
RSS feed URL for this site, for example,
is
http://www.renewsletter.com/Real-Estate-Internet-Marketing.xml.
By "subscribing" to my RSS feed, you
will automatically receive articles
pertaining to real estate Internet
marketing as they are added to the feed.
You
can also locate RSS feeds by
entering
"rss feeds" or "rss directories" into
your favorite search engine.
How can I create and publish a RSS
feed that brings interested prospects to
my real estate Website?
First you must decide what you want to
publish. Perhaps you have your
email newsletters archived on your site,
or some articles you prepared.
Maybe you have press releases on your
site. These are
excellent materials to syndicate for
publication in industry newsletters, or
as "filler" material on other Realtor's
sites or blogs.
Publishing an RSS feed requires special
software, but it's not hard to learn.
I recommend "FeedForAll,"
a simple to use package that does it all
for you and even allows you to submit
your new RSS feed to the major Internet
distribution sites, ensuring that you
get broad coverage...and lots more
high-quality traffic to your real estate
Website!
